Taller, Shorter, Same Height
We've been speaking a lot about measurement. In our classroom, we've been using various non-standard units to measure and compare height. Math words we are using in our talk are taller than, shorter than, and same height.

Volunteer Appreciation
Volunteers at St. Gabriel School help make our school the awesome place it is. Volunteers help at special events, come on field trips, work in the classrooms, read with children, shelve books in the Learning Commons, deliver pizzas, dig gardens and spread mulch, participate on school council and much, much more! To show our appreciation there will be cookies and coffee available by the front office from Tuesday - Friday this week. There will also by a small token of our appreciation. As well, a donation to CHEO has been made in the name of St. Gabriel Volunteers.
Thank you for helping build community at St. Gabriel School.

Litter Less Lunch Challenge
In honour of Earth Day St. Gabriel students were all challenged to bring a litter less lunch to school. For a lunch to be considered litter less no wrappers, zip lock bags, juice boxes or yogurt cups (even though they can be recycled) can be present in a student's lunch. The Kinders in Room 153 have repeatedly risen to the challenge winning 2 weeks in a row for having the most litter less lunches in the whole school! Now that's dedication. Thank you to the mom's and dad's that take the extra care in making sure lunches are packed in reusable containers. It truly makes a difference.
Everyday the children are using snap cubes to create a graph displaying the number of litter less lunches brought in each day!

Education Week!
This week we are celebrating Catholic Education Week with some special activities planned at St. Gabriel and in room 153.
Today we participated in Music Monday with other schools across Canada. We have been practicing the song. At 12 o'clock noon we all gathered outside and sang our little hearts out! It was great!
Today was also the kick off to our 30x30 challenge. The Kinders in room 153 have taken David Suzuki up on his challenge and are committed to spending 30 minutes outside everyday for the month of May. Today's challenge: To find living and non-living things.
On Tuesday, we hope you will join us for the Open House and Muffin Breakfast which will take place from 8-9 a.m. Each family is invited to bring six breakfast items to add to the table, for all to share. Coffee and juice will be provided. Our classroom is welcoming you to come see our exciting learning that is taking place.
On Wednesday, we will be visiting the Scholastic Book Fair that is located in our Learning Commons.
Thursday is Double Lunch Day. Please bring an extra lunch that we can donate to the Ottawa Mission. It is also our Mother's Day celebration in our classroom. Moms, please come and join us for a special activity and snack beginning at 2:00 pm. You are welcome to take your child home afterwards, but please sign them out at the office.
Friday is Jump Rope for Heart. Please bring back collection envelopes for May 4th.
