It's Earth Week at St. Gabriel!

We kicked of Earth Week last Thursday with "Clean Up the Capital". The kinders walked the school yard in search of garbage and waste that was polluting our play ground.  We were excellent stewards, sharing gloves and using only 1 garbage bag.

This week, we have been challenge to all bring a completely litterless lunch to school.  Litterless lunches have NO garbage (no zip-lock bags, wrappers, juice boxes or recyclable containers like yogurt or fruit cups).

Our Kinders do a great job bringing litterless lunches to school! Keep up that hard work (Thanks Mom's and Dad's)!

Toothpick Gallery

The kinders have been chatting about quantity and what it looks like. First, we looked at a set of 5 elephants and then compared them to a set of 5 mice.... Does each group equal 5? Next, we examined a set of 5 with 2 elephants and 3 mice. We discovered that when we want to know "how many", size and shape do not matter. In the activity shown below, students each worked with 6 toothpicks. They were to create anything they wanted using their 6 toothpicks. Last, we compared all of our work in our classroom Toothpick Gallery to show how although each picture looks different they all equal 6. 😃

Rain, Snow go away....

Now that the rainy, soggy weather is here extra socks are needed.  Please send a few pairs of extra socks to stay in your child's cubby so little feet stay warm and dry and school!

Jump Rope for Heart- Happy Fundraising!

By the end of this week, we will be sending home envelopes for Jump Rope for Heart. This is an event that we do at our school during Education Week. We will be doing Jump Rope for Heart on May 6th, which is the Friday of education week. We would like to have the envelopes back for May 4th. There will be no prizes for the amount fundraised. This is simply to support a good cause and charity. If there are any questions, please feel free to send us a note in the communication and we will try to address them. Happy fundraising.
